This course focuses on the cultural exchanges between the Chinese and Malay ethnic groups, especially language, academic, and literature. In addition to helping students understand the complex multicultural history, it also provides theoretical tools to strengthen students' critical thinking on humanities topics.Animal Welfare
Understand the current situation of various animals in Malaysia───pets, stray animals, farm animals, wild animals, laboratory animals, food animals, etc.───and related national policies, as well as government, non-profit organizations and the public efforts for animals. The course content covers: International Animal Welfare requirements, and the welfare status of local animals. Basic care for pets. Guidelines for experimental animals, and what could we do for stray and wild animals.Introduction to Anthropology
Being in a multi-racial country Malaysia, although we have live with different ethnic group for a long time, we are still very much differentiated among race and for some, still cannot get along well. This course hopes to enhance students understanding of themselves and their acuity in observing people and things happening around them, and to stimulate students to think deeply about topics such as "differences among people”, “other species", and "culture differences". This course provides a broad overview of the historical context of women’s movement and the debates revolve around various streams of feminism. It particularly focuses on gender sensitivity and awareness, and to discuss practical ways to empower women in everyday life.Gender Study
Gender identity is different from sexual or romantic orientation; gender exists in many different forms. Through discussions from different perspectives , students are taught to be sensitive towards gender issues and to respect for individual regardless of gender or sex, making a holistic contribution to create an enabling environment for gender equality.
